What permission do I need to enter Canada?
If you are looking to come to Canada on a temporary basis there are multiple ways that you can be permitted entry whether it be to study, to work or just visit. Whether or not you are eligible will depend on your personal situation.
Studying in Canada
Student visas
Special permission is often required to study in Canada. Finding out if you require a permit, are eligible and the steps to follow is best done through a simple consultation.
In many cases once your post-secondary studies in Canada are completed you can be eligible for a post-graduate work permit. This will allow you to gain valuable “Canadian work experience” which can be useful when later applying for permanent residence.
Working in Canada
Work visas
If you are not a Permanent Resident or Citizen of Canada and wish to work in the country, it is likely that you require a work permit. Work permits can be employer specific (closed) or open (allowing you to work for almost anyone). Canada has several international reciprocal agreements which facilitate people from certain countries to work here.
Work Permits almost always have limitations and conditions which you will need to understand and respect. Contact us for a consultation to find out what kind of opportunities there are for you to work in Canada.
It is worth noting that gaining Canadian work experience is often helpful in increasing one’s chances of acquiring Permanent Status later.
Visiting Canada
Visitor visas
The rules for entering Canada with temporary status are varied. You may need a TRV, an eTA, a Super Visas or nothing more than a valid travel document. It depends on your nationality, how long you wish to stay and what you intend to do while in Canada. It will be our pleasure to guide you to and through the process which fits your circumstances.
Settling in Canada
Acquiring permanent status
If your primary purpose is to eventually move and establish yourself in Canada, you can find more information by consulting our permanent status page.

Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) and Electronic Travel Authorization( eTAs)
One of our specialties at Perigee is helping our clients acquire visitor visas. In particular our service is geared towards those who have previously been refused or who foresee difficulties in being granted temporary status. If you feel you fall into this category, we strongly recommend that our clients first do a basic consultation to find out if your difficulty can hope to be overcome. We will give you an honest and professional appraisal regarding the strengths and weaknesses of your case. We will discuss with you the potential remedies for a future application. If after the consultation you wish to retain our services to represent you, we will subtract the consultation fee from your retainer. But we won’t agree to represent you if we don’t think success is attainable.
Super Visas
While most Temporary Resident Visa (TRVs) are issued for a maximum of 6 months. Parents and grandparents of Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are allowed to be sponsored under certain conditions for considerably longer stays. New rules allow foreign nationals to be sponsored for multi-entry visa which are valid for 10 years and allow stays of up to 5 years at a time. We would be pleased to guide you through that process.
Temporary Resident Permits (TRP)
In certain cases an officer may issue a TRP to allow a person who is inadmissible, or who does not meet the requirements of the IRPA, to become a temporary resident (that is, to enter or remain in Canada) if it is justified in the circumstances. Perigee can give you a frank appraisal of the potential applicability of this option for your circumstances and can represent you should you need to apply.
